Renting out a car registered in someone else's name

Short answer:

You can rent out a car that's registered in someone else's name. You just need to get the registered owner to send us their permission in writing.

You will need to:

  1. Check that the car is eligible to be rented out through Car Next Door
  2. Sign up as a Car Next Door member, if you haven't already done so
  3. Ask the registered owner of the car to send an email to members@carnextdoor.com.au stating:

"I <REGISTERED OWNER'S NAME>, as the Registered Owner of car <LICENCE PLATE NUMBER>, am aware and consent to <CAR NEXT DOOR MEMBERS NAME> sharing this car through Car Next Door, and to them receiving the subsequent income. I give my express permission for <CAR NEXT DOOR MEMBERS NAME> to manage the sharing of my car using the Car Next Door platform.

<REGISTERED OWNER'S MOBILE NUMBER>"

with a clear copy of owners' drivers licence (front and back) attached on the email.
